Hamas Holds Parade After Claiming Victory Against Israel

UPDATimes - Hamas claimed victory against Israel after the ceasefire announcement was announced. A ceasefire was reached after more than 200 Gazans died as a result of the conflict with Israel.

This truce came after being facilitated by Egypt. Egypt has diplomatic relations with Israel and has influence over Hamas.

According to the Arab News report, Friday (21/5/2021), Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and United States President Joe Biden welcomed the ceasefire decision. Meanwhile, Hamas celebrates this as a victory.

"This is the euphoria of victory," said senior Hamas figure Khalil Al-Hayya, who celebrated with thousands of Palestinians.

Israel said Hamas fired more than 4,300 rockets during the conflict.

In total, 232 Gazans died as a result of this conflict, including 65 young children. The United Nations reports hundreds of buildings were also destroyed in Palestine, and the WHO says more than 5,000 people were injured in Gaza and the West Bank.

Israel's Defense Minister, Benny Gantz stressed that Israel has given full power to punish Hamas.

After the ceasefire, at least 130 trucks of humanitarian aid from various aid agencies, including those affiliated with the United Nations (UN), arrived.

They brought medical supplies, food and fuel to Gaza after Israel opened the Kerem Shalom crossing.

"More than 100 thousand people have been forced to flee their homes in Gaza which is controlled by the Hamas group and nearly 800 thousand people now do not have access to clean water," said UNICEF.

The Palestinian Ministry of Public Works and Housing said 769 residential and commercial units were uninhabitable, then 1,042 units in 258 buildings were destroyed, and more than 14,500 units suffered minor damage.

One of the busiest commercial areas in Gaza City, namely Omar Al-Mukhtar Street, has not been spared from Israeli attacks. The area is now filled with rubble, wrecked cars, and scattered merchandise.

"We really didn't expect this much damage," said one baby clothing trader, Ashour Subeih.

"We thought the attack was far away from us. But as you can see, there was no intact area of ​​the shop," he concluded.
