UPDATimes - The Ministry of Communication and Information Technology (Kominfo) is targeting machines and systems to be used to block cellphones based on International Mobile Equipment Identity (IMEI) numbers running optimally in August.

Head of Sub Directorate of Service Quality and Harmonization of Post and Information Technology Standards of the Ministry of Communication and Information Nur Akbar Said stated that cloud and hardware versions of CEIR have the same function.

The Centralized Equipment Identity Register (CEIR) engine that will function to block illegal cloud versions of cell phones is currently being tested, and is expected to last until early July.

This cloud version of CEIR is being used while waiting for the hardware version of CEIR, which is currently still constrained due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

"Between CEIR Cloud and CEIR hardware has the exact same function and can also block IMEI," Akbar said, Wednesday (6/24/2020).

Meanwhile, Acting Director of the Electronics and Telematics Industries Ministry of Industry Achmad Rodjih, explained that CEIR is currently still in the cellular operator Telkomsel and will be submitted to the Ministry of Industry.

"The system that will run temporarily is cloud computing because the physical devices to install the CEIR system are planned to arrive in Indonesia around August 2020," said Rodjih.

According to the schedule, CEIR hardware will be optimal on August 24, but the ministry is working to make the system faster.
