This time Dana White's statement relates to McGregor who surprisingly announced his retirement on Sunday (6/7/2020). One of the reasons McGregor retired was the status of the Justin Gaethje vs. Khabib Nurmagomedov duel which was planned to be held in September 2020. Justin Gaethje could face Khabib Nurmagomedov after defeating Tony Ferguson at UFC 249. When planning the Khabib Nurmagomedov vs Justin Gaethje duel, UFC could also face McGregor. UFC plans to bring together McGregor with the winner of the Justin Gaethje vs. Khabib Nurmagomedov duel. The UFC decision disappointed McGregor because Justin Gaethje vs. Khabib Nurmagomedov's duel schedule was too long and would not necessarily take place in the midst of the current situation.

Furthermore, Dana White ensured that the UFC never prevented McGregor from appearing at the UFC as reported by many media outlets. "McGregor never refused a fight suddenly. He told us in advance that we could not perform (at UFC 249) and we never asked again," Dana White said. "So I did an interview on the radio about that. However, all the idiots for writing news that said I had destroyed McGregor's career," Dana White said. "Everything that is written is absolutely nonsense. They look even more stupid because it makes the lie a headline," Dana White said. Until now, it is still unknown whether McGregor really retired or not. Because, McGregor has twice announced his retirement in April 2016 and March 2019.
