UPDATimes - WASHINGTON - President of the United States (US) Donald Trump on Friday (29/5) local time officially cut ties with the World Health Organization (WHO) as well as stop all funding to the UN health organization.

This was done because in the eyes of Donald Trump WHO had failed in combating the spread of the Corona virus (covid-19) since its inception until now.

"Because they failed to carry out the reforms that were requested and urgently needed, we today will end our relationship with the World Health Organization," Trump said at the White House, "as quoted by AFP on Saturday (5/30/2020).

Then Trump continued, the US would divert funds previously allocated to WHO to other countries that needed urgent health handling.

However Trump did not reduce the pressure on China to make the country transparent about the outbreak that first appeared in Wuhan City.

"The world needs an answer from China about the virus. We have to get transparency, "Trump said.

Previously, Trump gave WHO 30 days to improve. The UN agency was accused of being too biased in China over the Covid-19 outbreak.

The US is the largest source of financial support for WHO and the US exit from the agency is expected to be enough to weaken the organization. Trump said that the US contributed around US $ 450 million to the world body, while China gave about US $ 40 million.

On that occasion, Trump even accused China of not being transparent from the start so that the virus spread throughout the world and had claimed more than 362,000 lives.

"The world needs answers from China about this virus. We must have transparency. "The world is suffering now as a result of the Chinese government's distortion," Trump stressed.

Trump also accused Chinese officials of ignoring their reporting obligations to WHO in the early days of the Corona virus.

"Efforts to cover up the Wuhan virus in China have enabled the disease to spread throughout the world, triggering a global pandemic that has claimed the lives of more than 100,000 Americans, and more than one million people worldwide," Trump said. (The latest claim is untrue; globally, there are around 360,000 confirmed deaths from COVID-19).
