UPDATimes - Shortly after the former Disney + service boss Kevin Mayer was appointed as the new CEO of TikTok, he has now criticized Facebook on his personal blog. Mayer even said that Facebook is a company of 'imitators'.

That is because Facebook is said to have developed 2 new services that were first present at TikTok. So from that Mayer was annoyed with what was done by Mark Zuckerberg's company.

"Facebook has even launched another mock product that is Reels after their other mock application that is Lasso failed miserably," Mayer wrote as quoted by CNBC.

Facebook has indeed launched the Lasso application, which the media calls the TikTok clone. This application was launched in 2018 but then was turned off in July 2020 because it did not sell.

Instead, Instagram developed the Reels feature that both offer ways to create short 15-second videos that can be edited using existing tools.

Mayer also accused Facebook of using patriotism as an unfair way to attack TikTok. Mayer's comments come shortly after Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg released his statement before testifying before the US Congress. In the statement, Zuckerberg said Facebook is a proud American company.

"At TikTok we welcome competition. We believe fair competition makes us all better," Mayer said.

"But try to focus our energy in fair and open competition to serve our customers, rather than attacks by our competitors - namely Facebook - disguised as patriotism and designed to end our presence in the US," he continued.

Since Mayer was appointed CEO, TikTok has received greater attention from US regulators. US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo even plans to block TikTok and other social media applications from China.

US efforts to ban TikTok in the country seem one step away. US Treasury Secretary Steve Mnuchin said the application made by ByteDance is currently being investigated by the Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States (CFIUS).

Indeed the presence of the Reels service made by Facebook itself clearly follows in the footsteps of TikTok's success as the number 1 platform for various short videos in the world for now. Even the features presented at Reels are also similar to those of TikTok.

"At TikTok, we warmly welcome competition. But if we look at the attacks of our competitors namely Facebook, this company can be disguised as patriotism and designed to end TikTok in the United States," Mayer continued.
Indeed, Facebook has taken a lot of features from other social media. Take for example the Stories feature that was originally created by Snapchat itself before now the features that have been presented on Instagram have become more successful.

Mayer said as a company originating from China, TikTok had accepted that they had to face tighter supervision.

"We accept this and accept the challenge of providing peace of mind through greater transparency and accountability," Mayer said.

"We believe it is important to show users, advertisers, creators, and regulators that we are responsible and committed members of the American community who follow US law," he concluded.
