UPDATimes - Now the US National Aeronautics and Space Administration or NASA is trying to send its robot to Mars with the aim of researching whether the planet can be inhabited by humans in the future or not.

If previously sent a rover robot named Sojourner, Spirit, and Opportunity, NASA is currently trying to send a robot shaped like a helicopter to the Red planet.

Given the name Ingenuity, it is known that this robot will be tasked to see and examine what the surface of the planet Mars up close. The helicopter is also equipped with an antenna, solar panel, landing feet and two large rotors.

Ingenuity will be the 'star' of Perseverance Rover, an explorer robot designed to help scientists know the possibility of life on Mars.

Ingenuity is not a core tool in this exploration mission.
Because he only hitched a ride on the rover.
Ingenuity is intended to test the ability of NASA technology to fly in other parts of the world.

"The thing that makes me most excited when getting ready to watch helicopters fly in another world."

"That is something that has never been done before in human history, and we will do it," said NASA Administrator, Jim Bridenstine.

The Perseverance Rover and Ingenuity helicopters are planned to launch from the Kennedy Space Center in Florida, United States, on July 20, 2020.

Arriving on Mars is estimated on February 18, 2021.

Arriving on the Red Planet, Ingenuity will then separate from the main explorer, Perseverance Rover.

Deputy Project Manager for the Mars 2020 mission, Matt Wallace stated, Ingenuity will fly approximately 50 meters from the rover.

However, the rover will monitor Ingenuity flights through several cameras out of the 23 default cameras.

Related to Ingenuity's ability to take pictures of the rover's movements during his flight, Wallace said, it would only be known when the mission took place.

Ingenuity Flight is a technology demonstration mission, which means it may not run smoothly.

Researchers will see and study the process from sending to Mars, exiting the spacecraft, to the ability to fly on the red Planet.

"We are not too ambitious about this technology (Ingenuity), because we are looking for the earliest things we really need to learn," Wallace said.

The Ingenuity helicopter is planned to try three flights on the Red Planet.

The plan NASA will send this helicopter on July 20, 2020 coming from the Kennedy Space Center in Florida, USA. If the mission has been carried out according to schedule, it is predicted that the robot will arrive on Mars on February 18, 2021.

Later the task of Ingenuity with a new Mars rover called Perseverance will be different. The two robots will have different exploration tasks, moreover Ingenuity is also the first project from NASA to bring a helicopter robot on the planet Mars.
