UPDATimes - The Corona pandemic or covid-19 is still in print, some countries are still experiencing Corona outbreaks.

There are a number of new normal plan implementations, part of the effort to continue to carry out daily activities based on prescribed health protocols.

New facts about the Corona virus were discovered by a team of researchers from China. Yes, recently, a Chinese research team discovered the genetic code of the new Corona virus SARS-CoV-2 in the sperm of some 19 patients who lived together.

These new findings also indicate that this virus can enter the reproductive organs such as male testes. Not only that, it also means it can increase the risk of co-19 transmission through sexual contact.

Quoting from Kompas.com, this finding was reported in the journal JAMA Network Open of the American Medical Association, the American medical association.

Initially, the research team from Changchue Municipal Hospital in Henan Province, China, detected the presence of the SARS-Cov-2 virus in six of the 38 male patients treated at the hospital.

Research on them was carried out at the peak of the outbreak in China, namely in January and February 2020.

As a percentage this amount is small. As many as 16% of the findings show evidence of the Corona virus in sperm.

Of the cases studied, about a quarter were in the acute stage of infection. Meanwhile, 9 percent of them later recovered.

With this research, the question then arises, whether Corona virus can be transmitted through sex ?.

"We found that SARS-CoV-2 can be found in the sperm of patients who are covid-positive, and SARS-CoV-2 may still be detectable in the sperm of patients who are healing," the research team wrote in the journal JAMA.

Based on these findings, the research team states this is something that must be considered and requires further research, especially to find out whether the Corona virus can be transmitted through sex.

"Even when these viruses cannot replicate in the male reproductive system, they can remain there, possibly the result of special immunity from the testes," wrote Dr. Diangeng Li and his colleagues.

This special immunity means the body's immune system cannot fully reach the area to attack the incoming virus.

This virus is also detected in the sperm of patients who have entered the healing period. Unfortunately, it is not yet known how this virus can spread like that.

According to the writer's team, it cannot be concluded whether the Corona virus can spread through sexual contact.

"If it can be proven that SARS-CoV-2 can be transmitted sexually in further studies, then sexual transmission can be an important part in preventing transmission. Especially taking into account the fact that SARS-Cov-2 was found in patients who were recovering, "wrote the team from The Eight Medical Centers of Chinese People's Liberation Army General Hospital.

Although uncertain, experts advise patients to hold sexual relations or use of condoms.

"Withholding sex or using condoms can be counted as a way to prevent transmission to these patients. It is worth noting that there is a need to learn to monitor fetal development. Therefore, avoiding contact with the patient's saliva and blood may not be enough, because the patient's sperm is deep healing still allows to cause transmission, "wrote Dr. Diangeng Li and his colleagues.

In addition, it is also unknown whether the discovery of this virus in sperm can affect male fertility.
